Davenport is a city located in Polk County of the U.S. state of Florida. It is an integral part of the Lakeland–Winter Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area. As per the 2020 Census, Davenport FL has around 9,043 population. In 2010 the population was just  2,888 in numbers. Later, the population of this city increased dramatically. Well the history of Davenport FL is quite interesting. This area was established in the year 1838. It was the time of the Second Seminole War and the US military set up Fort Davenport. That fort was 12 miles away and located in the north part of the present location of Davenport. Fort Davenport was 20 miles in between Fort Brooke and Fort Mellon. The fort persisted for a few years. Colonel William Davenport was honored with the name of the fort. He served as a  U.S. commander in the war.

In the 1880s when the South Florida Railroad extended to Davenport the modern city was established. This settlement is known as Horse Creek. Later a post office was established in 1884 at Horse Creek which is known as Davenport. In 1926 the downtown area was altered with a new station. It was ceased in 1970.

Davenport FL is a charming city that offers a convenient location for visitors. Visitors can explore both the tranquility of nature. The driving distance from Davenport to Disney World Resort is relatively short. The direct route is via Interstate 4 (I-4), which conveniently connects the two locations. On average, it should take you approximately 20-30 minutes to reach the magical gates of Walt Disney World Resort.

US 17 / US 92 in Davenport, Florida is an imperative highway intersection. It’s approximately 3 miles to Hwy 27 and 6.5 miles to I-4. The junction of U.S. Route 17 from Jacksonville and U.S. Route 92 from Daytona Beach occurs just north of Deland, combining to form U.S. 17-92.

U.S. Route 27 (US 27) in Florida is a north-south United States Numbered Highway that runs 496.352 miles (798.801 km) from the Miami metropolitan area northwest to the Tallahassee metropolitan area.  It was once a major road used by travelers from the Midwest, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia for travelling to  Florida. US 27 provides a direct entry to the state’s less populated central areas, passing through scenic landscapes, cattle ranches, citrus groves, and agricultural roots. It’s often referred to as the backbone of Florida

Davenport FL has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are long, hot, and wet. The temperature in summer is above 86°F. Winters are short, cool, and partly cloudy. And the temperature in winter is around 53°F. The wettest months are from June to September, The annual rainfall is around 1250 mm.

Health Care

Health care is imperative to sustain a healthy life. Davenport FL has only one hospital  AdventHealth Heart of Florida. It has been in operation since the 1960s.In 2023 Davenport, Florida, and Haines City desired to attach with the land of  Florida Regional Medical. Later, Davenport city annexed the land. In 2004 this hospital extended its services. A medical office building, cardiac catheterization lab, and emergency department were established in 2007. It expanded the building to the fourth and fifth floors. These were used for surgery in Joint & Spine Centers. Rooms for women were also there. From 2013 to 2019 massive growth was suspect in AdventHealth Heart of Florida. Interventional radiology and cardiac electrophysiology, MRI  started during this time. Health Management Associates sold Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center to Community Health Systems on January 27, 2014. In Nov 2022 worked on the expansion of its emergency department. Its construction is completed in 2023.
